Task Two

As a member of a small group you will complete one scenario in the Stop Disasters game created by ISDR - the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction to recognize the issues involved in reducing the effects of natural disasters.

Your role:

Problem solver and collaborative team member.

Intended Outcomes:

Improve collaboration and problem solving skills derived from experience.

Complete an artifact for your portfolio.

Working in your assigned group, choose a scenario from the Stop Disasters game (playerthree, n.d). Options include:
  • A tsunami in a coastal village in South East Asia.
  • A hurricane on an island in the Caribbean.
  • A wild fire in the arid planes of Central Australia.
  • An earthquake in lowland hills in Eastern Mediterranean.
  • A flood in a valley flood plain in Eastern Central Europe.

Work collaboratively as a small team to problem solve the case identified.

Task Three

Summarise your group's efforts and strategies used.

As a small team complete a summary of 200-300 words which includes the mission, the strategies used, the successes achieved and the suggestions to improve the outcome. Add the summary to your portfolio. Include group members names in your submission.

Extension Options


1. Repeat the scenario and try to improve on the outcome or challenge yourself by selecting a more difficult level.
2. Complete a different scenario. Before starting get advice from classmates that completed the scenario to assist you in making wise decisions
